Het blijft grappig om te zien hoe, sinds voyager 1/2, de ondekking van ijs, dus water, (leven!!?!) op de maan Europa rond Jupiter, de scifi wereld heeft beïnvloed.
Vlak na voyager schreef A.C.Clarke zijn opvolging van 2001, 2010, als een soort schot voor open doel. (wat een mazzel dat 2001 bij jupiter eindigde). Ik las het natuurlijk met rooie oortjes, maar het was wel wat saai, net als de latere verfilming ook.
'Europe Report' is de 2e film over mogelijk leven op Europa. Over een expeditie om een gat te boren in dat ijs, aldaar.
Van het begin af aan is er tegenslag, eerst geen communicatie met de aarde, dan ongelukken met reparaties buiten, een dode... Na de landing op Europa, worden er lichten gezien, en psychische gewaarwordingen.. Iemand die buiten op onderzoek uitgaat... Weer een dode...
Uiteindelijk vergaan we met zn allen, man en muis. Alleen de allerlaatste actie lukt: het versturen van de belangrijkste data, inclusief een laatste glimp van het leven op Europa, een soort inktvis. (spoil spoil)
Ik stel voor om 't beest 'the Kraken' noemen. 🙂

After the research ship 'Ikarus' was destroyed by an asteroid impact somewhere near Jupiter, the crew of the spaceship 'Laika' (presumably named after the first dog in space (aka 'muttnik')) on a mission to repair an unmanned asteroid-monitoring space-station picks up inexplicable radio signals that may be associated with the destruction of the 'Ikarus'.
The film was made by the East German film government run studio DEFA (Deutsche Film-Aktiengesellschaft) partly as a demonstration of technical prowess in the aftermath of 1968's '2001: A Space Odessey' and, as others have pointed out, there are number of similarities with Kubricks' seminal 'hard sci-fi' masterpiece (which in turn was influenced by the Russian film Doroga k zvezdam (1957)).
The special effects and miniatures in 'Signals' are imaginative, 'realistic' and well executed but the story is vague and the pacing turgid at times. There are odd (and tedious) 'beach' scenes featuring buff men walking on their hands (real and faked) and slender women in relatively modest bikinis, presumably to highlight the cosmonauts' 'bonding' before the trips. The crew is highly ethnically, and presumably nationally, diverse (similar to the earlier East German space-opera 'Der schweigende stern' (1960)).
Although the film promulgates the common misconception that the asteroid belt is dense with floating rocks, the science is pretty good for a genre pic. At one point a cosmonaut drops a wrench while on an EVA that will requiring monitoring as an orbiting object, foreshadowing the tool bag dropped by an ISS crew member in 2023 and the increasing safety concerns about tracking orbiting space-debris.

In part a rousing act of filmic rebellion against Reagan-era and capitalist ideologies, in part a pastiche of classic science-fiction and Western tropes, They Live is pure Carpenter and a quintessential cult classic. The title alone suggests an Us versus Them theme for the viewer, creating an association that links our alien overlords with a class of capitalists, politicians, mass media institutions, and popular culture—and by association, strengthens the countercultural ambitions of the film.

Aldus ene Anna Rallo: Het ziet er prachtig uit hoor en de bijrollen worden gespeeld door de meest uiteenlopende
beroemdheden (Herbie Hancock? Serieus?). Maar het het verhaal is sneu, en de chemie tussen de hoofdrolspelers
is die van een smeltend suikerklontje. :-)

rond reist. Duizelig makend, intriges... intriges...
Animatie, een lief verloren ET kindje belandt op aarde tussen Shaun en de andere schapen.
Blijkt over eigenaardige krachten te beschikken. Op het eind komt alles wel goed gelukkig.
Cult 50's scifi, over een afgelegen planeet met een verleden, waar een eenzame professor samen met zn smachtende dochter woont.
Komt een missie van gezonde spacetroopers langs. Met o.a. beroemde robbie de robot, die wel 188 talenspreekt, en zijn brein
in een glazen koepel behuist o.a. een zeer snel typende stenograaf. En ook met allerlei walt disney tekenfilm effecten, van
fantasia geleend.
Zweedse SciFi over een interstellair ruimteschip met (o.a.) een AI die depressief wordt. een ten dode opgeschreven (mini)maatschappij.
Klassieke dystopie waarbij
emoties, liefde en sex strikt verboden zijn en worden onderdrukt door
verplichte inname van middelen. Laten we hopen dat het goed komt.
De maker zou later 'StarWars' gaan maken.

Uit een radioboodschap van Mars, blijkt daar leven te zijn. Men wordt voor gek verklaard.
Maar de volhouders van dit geloof gaan er uiteindelijk toch met een raket naar toe.
Aldaar blijkt Aelita de koningin een lieflijk lekker ding te zijn, maar uiteindelijk is ze toch
een monarchistische machthebster en het gepeupel wil eigenlijk ook wel wat te zeggen hebben.
